Indian Railways Awards Rs 818 Crore Wagon Manufacturing Contract to SAIL-RITES JV BAGS New Delhi, May 1, 2024: The Indian Railways has granted a significant wagon manufacturing contract worth Rs 817.74 crore to a joint venture between Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and RITES Ltd.

The joint venture, known as SAIL-RITES Bengal Wagon Industry Pvt Ltd, will be responsible for producing bogie open wagons primarily used for the transportation of coal and iron ore.

Officials familiar with the decision revealed that the tender for 2,000 wagons was finalized in the last week of April and awarded to the SAIL-RITES joint venture.

This marks the inaugural tender for wagon procurement by the national transporter in the ongoing financial year.
