[Dated: 30 Mar 2017 ]     Country : Mexico

Spanish utility Iberdrola announced it will develop a 220-MW wind farm to help meet the energy needs of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo. The companies signed a 15-year contract for the supply of renewable energy.

Located in Puebla state, the 84-turbine wind farm will require a total investment of USD 300 million (EUR 277.43m). Covering an area of 100 ha (247 acres), the plant should be able to generate approximately 490 GWh per year. It is scheduled to be up and running by 2019.

This project will also help AB InBev, Grupo Modelo`s Belgian parent, achieve its goal of having 100% of its energy consumption met with green sources by 2025. The website of its local subsidiary, Iberdrola currently has 365 MW of operational wind parks in its Mexican portfolio.
